Apokoronas is a real treasure to discover! There are plenty of historical and archeological sites to find, close and around Vamos village, such as the ancient city of Aptera, Karydi monastery, the church of Agios Nikolaos in Kyriakoselia village, the Venetian wells and folklore museum in Gavalochori and much more.

Nearest Beaches

There are some very cozy sandy beaches close to Vamos, such as Kalyves (6 km), Almyrida (8 km), Georgioupolis (10 km), Kiani (7 km), Kera (7 km), Ombrosgialos (8km).
Famous beaches in the West of Chania are Elafonisi, Falasarna and Balos lagoon.

Flora and Fauna

Apokoronas extends from the foothills of the White Mountains (LefkaOri). The area is very green and fertile, which is unusual for rocky Crete. Apokoronas is a rich agricultural region with many olive groves, vineyards and orange groves.
